Tourists Places to visit in Pondicherry ,Puducherry India


The beach is a main tourists attraction in Puducherry.The 1.5 km long promenade running along the beach is the core of the Pondicherry Town.It is characterised by the the statue of Mahatma Gandhi standing tall, Dupleix statue,the War memorial ,the old light house, the remains of the old pier and the heritage town hall.The beach extends wide and it is also known as the Paradise Beach in the Cuddalore main road,the Serenity beach on the north side of the town and the Auroville beach in the Auroville area.We will see the directions on the Google map keeping the Gandhi statue on the beach as the start point for other tourists spots



The Sri Aurobindo Ashram , one of the most famous ashrams in India is located on rue de la Marine .It has devotees from all over India .



Auroville


Auroville (1968 ) also known as the ‘City of Dawn ’ was guided as a place to live together in humanity by The Mother with the help of the spiritual collaborator Sri Aurobindo.Its Charter says, “To live in Auroville one must be a willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness”, and describes it as “belonging to nobody in particular, but to humanity as a whole”; as a place “of constant progress”; and as “a bridge between the past and the future.”



There are quite a few  museums in Pondicherry that speaks about the Pondicherry life.The Puducherry Museum(G) located on Saint Louis street has a collection of rare bronzes and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola dynasties and artifacts excavated from Arikamedu  .It is open on all days except Mondays and national holidays between 1000-1700 hrs.The Ananda Ranga Pillai Museum(E) has some compilation of diaries that serve as a storehouse of information on the 18th century French India.The Bharathi Memorial Museum (B) is the house of Poet Mahakavi Bharathiyar and has major of his literature works and Photos.Bharathidasan Museum(C) is the house of Poet and  Writer Bharathidasan and it has some of his important works .Children’s Museum (D) has shell collections and the Jawahar Toy Museum (F) has a collection of over 120 dolls, each one dressed in costumes from different Indian states.





A biological park nearly 200 years old and has over 1,500 species from all over the world.Suituated near New Bus stand in Pondicherry it also consists of a musical fountain, an aquarium with variety of ornamental fishes , a toy train to have a quick look at the garden and a rock garden.A place where kids can enjoy learning about different tyoes of flowers and plants and also have fun.Once in a year, a flower show is held this place where you can see amazing varities of flowers some of which you can buy home .




A unique historical site south of Pondicherry to Arikamedu this place is believed to be a Roman trading centre.The ruins of a seminary and residence built here for Jesuit missionaries in the 18th century displays how the buildings were constructed during that era.Half-walls some standing and yet some on the ground displays mixed bricks.This place gives you a unique travelling back experience .
