Puducherry (Pondicherry) Airport and Aviation Services goes On Stream

Years of Planning has finally bore fruit to Pondicherry Aviation and its People .Puducherry government has spend a major amount of money to make this project take life. An amount of Rs.18.95 crore was spent for land acquisition for building up the Airport and its service centers and another Rs.9.83 crore for construction of box culvert for the sewage pipe lines crossing the runway.

Airport center operations , services and training has been done by Orient Flight Service ,the aviation wing of Hindustan Group of Institutions in Pondicherry .Established in 1994, OFS is been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.

Anand Jabob Verghese , the director of OFS and additional director of Hindustan group of Institution has told in his interview that thought the preference of Aeronautical Engineer has large scope of pay scale and work in this industry, he should also have some knowledge in other branches of Engineering be it mechanical, electrical or software according to today's shift in technology .

A private sector PATS( Pondicherry Aviation and Travel Services ) run by Mr Srivivasan Yadav , is a flight service center operating at Pondicherry airport helps in providing recruitment and training of support staff including flight planning services and customer services .

This move is expected to revive the economic growth and there by increase the travel potential in Pondicherry City making the already acclaimed Tourist Spot more stronger

Tourism minister of Puducherry, P Rajavelu has already revealed that Spice Jet Airlines will operate flights from Puducherry to Bangalore from October 10, 2011 through The Times of India Journal . "The Spice Jet Airlines has got clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation to operate flights from Puducherry to Bangalore from 10th October 2011," he said.

On Oct 17,2012,  he also added in an informal chat with the news-person that in the present condition only small size aircrafts could be operated and hence, the administration was holding talks with institutions such as Spicejets, Kingfisher etc as per Chennai Online Journal

Chief Minister N Rangasamy said that the works on the terminal building has almost been completed and is likely to go on air in few months .He also added that Talks are on with certain private players including Jet Airways, Kingfisher and SpiceJet to operate the services - Source [ZeeNews]

According to sources from The Hindu, the airport expansion is done in two phases , with Phase 1 of extending the existing runway by 260 metres was taken up to enable landing of ATR type of aircraft along with ground support facilities and in Phase 2 , extension of an additional 1,100 meters of runway by acquiring 200 acres in neighbouring Tamil Nadu State limits to operate large jet aircraft.

Phase 1 has been completed to handle AAI type of landing and takeoff with a terminal building supposed to handle 300 passengers  and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

So owing to the facts from credible sources, the first flight to be operated by Spice Jet  from Bangalore to Puducherry would be in the first week of December 2012

Old and Rare Architectural Clock Towers in Pondicherry ( Puducherry)

The French colonial period of Pondicherry saw trades on seas and development of education as well as health systems in Puducherry.The story of three clocks (Tours de l'horloge) has a special place in History of Puducherry and still stands as an epitome of Pondicherry city

Chinna Mani Kundu / Petite Tower Clock

The Clock Tower stands high in the streaming lines of people moving in and fro to the Bazaar /market called as Chinna Mani Kundu  or Chinna Kadai ( The Petite Bazaar in French).It stands high with a height of 25 feet built in lime mortar near the cutting of Lal Bahadur Shastri Street and Mahatma Gandhi Road.The market is famous for small shops lined in rows selling flowers ,fruits, cookery items, gifts,toys ,meats and many other things , all in one place.It was the Pondicherians own multi super market before the dawn of retail stores .The big tower clock was donated by Cou Latchoumanasamy Chettiar in the year 1892 (as per history).

Periya Mani Kundu/ Grand Tower Clock

Periya Mani Kundu or the  Goubert Market is located  in the centre of Pondichery between the four important streets JN street,Anandha Ranga Pillai Street,Mahatma Gandhi Street and Bharathi Street .The bazaar was created in 1826 and as to its name, it is much bigger in size compared to the Chinna Kadai and has goods double the size of the Petite clock tower .The clock tower was build in the year 1851 by Dayrianadin in the name of his uncle Diagou Modeliar and so it is even called as Diagou Mudaliar Clock Tower .Located in the busy streets of Pondicherry, this Bazaar is famous for all shopping purposes even now and can be seen filled with people always .It is the lively and active spot of Pondicherry city

Another yet smaller  version of clock tower can be seen in the three way cutting of Muthialpet Market, Karuvadikuppam road and MG Road .A little further inside, is the small market of Muthialpet selling goods for the Pondicherry people in that area.

Pondicherry Beach

Pondicherry Beaches are unique in its beauty and have lots of people strolling on the corridors and pavements on the beach almost throughout the years.It is one of the most favored part in the city.I recently wrote an article about this beach and I rewrite it here as it revives the beauty of the beach with a sweet story that had won me a competition.

The story of the beach starts from here....

Summer has officially started with heat wave building up as Agni Nakshatra ( Kathiri Veyyil) as usual on April in my home town , Pondicherry.With the ongoing heat that will last till June, frequent current cut-offs and rolling sweats on foreheads warning my body to rehydrate more , the health conscious "me" always equipped my refrigerator with lots of summer fruits like water melon ,oranges, lemons, mango, grapes and curds. But with summer holidays on start (hurray!!) and lots of excitement for parks, Tours and get-together, there is more work outdoors than indoors.

Krya was my assigned task for taking her a day out in Pondicherry , whose coast line is the Bay of Bengal Beach itself.

Having born and brought up in Pondicherry, I have known this beach to be the best , impressive place to stroll and have a great time to watch the waves.The breathtaking vision of the gleaming waters under the morning sun brought liveliness and radiance to the beach.Adding to it were the architectural buildings and monuments that stood facing the sea .I told Kyra all about the French rule , how the French got attracted to the Pondy and set it as their home and also about the historical French architecture that separates itself from the rest of Pondy.We took photograph under the 4.25 meters Ganthi statue that stood majestic gaurded by eight exquisitely carved monolithic pillars brought here from Gingee and erected in 1866.I even told Kyra about a secret behind the Gandhi statue (which was told to me by my father), which still many Pondicherrians aren't aware of.There was once a tunnel below the Gandhi statue that leads all the way to the Gingee through which these pillars made by a single stone was transported to Pondy .But failing to resurrect it after few suffocation and deaths , the Government finally closed it for good.

We then shopped for hand-made crafts made by using sea-shells from the shore from Four-squares that stood lining near the Gandhi statue. Kyra loved the chains, and toys made from seashells and embellished herself with them.I took her to the beach-side cafe  lounge where we had the best cafe just overlooking the Beach.She just loved the cold drinks served there.

Then, I took her to another spot a little outside of Pondicherry with a few miles ride away from Paradise Beach .

And it stands up to its name.Away from honking vehicles and active city , it is the most serene place that stretch itself all along the coast with golden sands having little secrets of hidden sea shells that lures people to experiment with its possessions.We indulged ourselves in various activities like swimming , boating, canoeing , etc that is been served as a Tourist attraction .We made sand castles  and also made patterns with our hands and legs on the fine beach sand.

It was a perfect place and day for sunbathing and swimming with a perfect partner in place.I was very much relived of escaping the summer sun with such a lively company who enjoys splashing waters everywhere and and who knows how to stay protected from the summer sun.We then brought tender coconuts that were sold on the beach side and sat on the sand chatting and drinking as we admired the Reddish Orange sparkles of the setting sun.

"Summer", I thought , "it can' t be avoided but still can be made wonderful if only we have the right attitude to make it enjoyable".The Sun rays that peeped through my window sill in the morning now succumbed into the oceans slowly as we neared the end of the day.

Kyra and I parted with a heavy heart and this day with the summer girl took a special place on my diary having the best time under the spell of waters on the bright sunny day.And finally I blew kisses to my native town Pondicherry  for it had saved my day with its exotic beach location .

What more a beautiful explanation with photographs would be needed to write an article about the Pondicherry beach

Fish Gravy with Salmon (Meen Koyumbu)

Ingredients 

Tamarind - one lemon size
Fish pieces - half kg
Onion -1
Tomato -1
Garlic -  five to six tooth
Vadavam - one tbsp
Green Chilly -1
Turmeric powdre- 1 tbsp
Chilli Powder - as required
Danniya Powder - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

For Mixture
Soak a lemon size Tamarind in water until soft.Then crush it enough so as to make a paste draining in the tamarind juice. Then filter the tamarind juice separately .To it add, chilli powder, green chilli, turmeric ,pepper and a little salt

Preparation

1. Put some oil in the large pan.After it is hot, put the vadavum still it sizzles in oil.
2. Add finely chopped onion,tomato , garlic tooth and sauté for few minutes until the mixtures is cooked well
3. To the above mixture , add the tamarind and chilli mixed water .Let them all boil together till the color changes dark
4. Now add the fish pieces to the boiling mixture.
5. Serve hot after done

Translating your French documents and filling it without spending a penny

Documents Translation are an important part of Pondicherry people where we live in a mixed culture.Many of those who wants to go to France or those from France needs to settle here need proper documents.

Money just go out lavishly from the pocket whether we like it or not just for translating these simple documents.Some snatch Rs. 100 to Rs.300 for just filling in your form which comprises only basic details . A little knowledge of understanding what information is required (written in a foreign language) would help you to fill the form yourselves.

Also, knowing how to fill the forms from other language , here French would be useful at hand if we just know the meaning of the sentences in the form.Normally everytime, it is just the name ,address and proofs that is required.And they are repeated in every form with just the title changing for Passport, Visa ,etc...If you have a internet enabled PC at home, then just do the following steps.

Steps Involved

1.Get the form form the French Consulate and make two copies of the same.

2.Using Google Translate which is FREE, type the whole sentences and translate them into English or French or even into Tamil .

Translate Sentence by Sentence

Translate a whole document (this requires uploading a .doc or .txt file)

3.Write the translated words on the xerox copy of the form with a pencil.

4.Finally after translating the whole form, fill them as you normally would do in any ordinary application form (again in pencil)

5.Now, just translate the filled in lines into French using Google translate ( link above )wherever necessary.

Note: Names, Address, and other details can be copied from Livert or any other old documents.Thought for first timers, it sounds a little difficult, doing it once you soon become an expert for future documents if any for you or your family numbers just saving lots of money.
